Lift-in/out instructions

Responsibilities of Lift Clients:
For Each Lift:
  • The vessel owner or their designate must attend the lift.
  • Ensure that sling placement locations are clearly marked on the vessel before the lift. The crane lift crew and/or lift volunteers managing the slings must be informed of these sling placement locations.
  • Bow and stern lines of at least 30 feet (9.144 meters) must be available and ready for the crane lift crew and volunteers to safely guide and control the vessel during the lift.
  • Trailers, cradles, jack stands, or blocks intended to receive the vessel on lift-out must be available, in working order, and ready for use.
  • For lift-out, the vessel owner or their designate must know how to position the vessel on the trailer, cradle, jack stands, or blocks.
Important Note: SYC and Maurer Crane are not responsible for damage caused by incorrect placement of stands or blocks. Vessel owners are responsible for ensuring that stands or blocks are correctly positioned and in safe working order.
  • If you are lifting out a vessel onto a trailer, cradle, jack stands, or blocks for the first time, notify the Yardmaster when making the lift request.
  • After spring lift-in, the trailer, cradle, jack stands, or blocks must be removed from the yard immediately by the vessel owner.
During Lift Operations:
  1. The crane operator and crane lift crew will determine sling placement relative to lifelines and standing rigging, including the use of spreader bars.
  2. Do not enter the yard unless authorized.
  3. Avoid communicating with or distracting the crane signaler. Communicate only with the lead sling volunteer or the Yardmaster to ensure everyone’s safety.
Pre-Placement of Cradles and Jack Stands (Lift-Out Clients):
  • Members at the headwall (from North to South) may place their cradles or jack stands in their designated off-season storage area.
  • Other lift clients who wish to pre-load the site may temporarily store cradles or jack stands to the West or East of the outdoor washrooms.
  • Ensure these items are not obstructing the vehicle gate or lane ways.
  • Clients with trailers should enter the yard only when instructed during lift operations.
After Lift-Out (For All Other Storage Clients):
  • Once lift-out is completed and the crane has left the yard, storage clients may occupy their designated storage area.
  • Storage areas will be posted on the bulletin board in the yard.
  • Note: Storage arrangements are subject to change, and late arrivals will not obligate directors, volunteers, or members to move or rearrange boats.
  • If you wish to retrieve your boat during storage, directors, volunteers, or members are not obligated to rearrange boats in the yard for your convenience.
  • Maintain clear and unobstructed access to the docks, vehicle gate, and the laneway to the boat launch at all times.
Storage Clients Not Requiring a Lift:
  • Clients storing boats in the yard who are not lift clients must remove their boat from storage one day prior to spring lift-in, or prior to the crane’s expected arrival time.
Note for All Storage and Lift Clients:
  • It is strongly recommended that your name is clearly visible and easily identifiable on your cradles, stands, or trailers. This greatly assists the crews during lift and storage operations.
  • Extended storage beyond the off-season is strictly prohibited. If additional storage time is required, please make alternative arrangements off-site.
  • Please remember that SYC is not responsible for the care or storage of your vessel.
